FROM THE STUDIO
Something I take great pride in is that, from design development, to product testing and sampling, to final production, everything is done in house in my studio in Ankeny, IA. I have been a jewelry designer and artisan maker since I first started beading earrings at 14, and am proud to say I’ve picked up on numerous techniques and skills since then. These have allowed the work I create to evolve to include lost wax casting, stone setting, laser cutting, engraving, beading, and stringing, which combined with my love of archival references, found object details, and an irreverent and playful sense of humor have formed the Free Spirit NY Style!

Some of my favorite creative projects come out of a personal need rather than an eye for business. Nowhere is this more true than with my line of unique interactive and one of a kind keychains. What started as a small batch of mirrored disco balls for friends and I to wear to concerts last year quickly morphed into one of the focal points of our festival season display! Bright, Playful, Silly, and Interactive, our keychains are meant to be worn on belt loops, bags, lanyards, and more and are the personification of what my brand is all about… surprise, delight, and individuality!

When it comes to metal work I have a soft spot for the victorian ideal of talismans, small objects worn as signs of a life well lived, of personal affections, and individual interests that you can carry with you. It’s a romantic sensibility that allows us each to approach the same table of pieces and pull a collection that is individual to us and our character. This process of interacting with customers, laughing, sharing inspiration, and helping them find the pieces that speak to them is why I have continued to present my work at events for the past 14 years. It’s a space for genuine connection and one which fills me with joy!

You’ll find our display style to be as worldly and individual as our work! Tables are either antique or found object pieces or draped in nearly 100 year old mud cloths from Mali, which showcase our commitment to hand made and unique textures. Our fixtures tend to be about clean lines and simple materials such as wood, marble, and pale washed linen which give the table surface a variety of textures that show off the jewelry we create without overpowering.

What I’ve loved most about being involved with shows and festivals over the past 14 years is getting to interact with the crowd and getting to personally meet our customers! So when you find us at an event you will be meeting the artist, Hi my name is Jaeger and I am a third generation creative whose passion for design and a life of discovery is why I created Free Spirit NY!
Assisting me you will find my incredible mother Molly, a mixed media artist and painter. Or one of our fabulous friends! Note that we are a proudly queer owned business and our hiring process reflects this, with all of our show helpers either being proud and diverse members of the community or loving allies who work together to make our space a welcoming and open one for all!
